Broken Drainage a Growing Concern in Taman Bukit Blossom

It has often been said that good drainage makes for good neighbourhood. Imagine to have a property in a neighbourhood that drains were built only to serve as a purpose of breeding rats/ mosquito instead of channeling water properly. Unfortunately, this is one of the most common worrying areas of problem faced by Taman Bukit Blossom neighbourhood.

Broken drains all over the neighbourhood which contributes to the poor flow of water eventually causes water to stagnate. This stagnant water provides a warm welcome to insects, rats as well as mosquito to breed. To add to the worry, there are drains that doesn't end/ finish properly. One area identified, has got NO DRAIN at all !

TBBRA has identified the areas that needs immediate attention on drainage repairs and have contacted MPS requesting them to solve this issue. We hope MPS will respond to this complaint without further delay as we march towards a Healthy & Clean Residential area.

Fire Hydrant - Time for Upgrade ?

A fire hydrant is an active fire protection measure, and a source of water provided in most urban, suburban and rural areas with municipal water service to enable firefighters to tap into the municipal water supply to assist in extinguishing a fire.

Fire hydrants needs to be flushed out at least twice a year to make sure the pipes are free of debris and to check to make sure it is functioning properly, most importantly check on the water pressure. Also, the area around the fire hydrant must be kept clear at all times.

Taman Bukit Blossom, within the guarded neighbourhood, has only 5 underground hydrants, of which 1 was found to be buried under thick earth covered with grass. Underground Hydrants are no longer used and is rare to be seen. An above ground hydrant would be better in terms of effective access to the hydrants in case of emergency.

We are taking it for granted that all hydrants are in working condition and have proper pressure and water supply. Its better to be safe than sorry so we prompted the “BOMBA” to attend to our Taman and do maintenance works as well as upgrade the hydrants in our Taman.

Late morning letter was submitted to Balai Bomba & Penyelamat Seremban, afternoon on the very same  day they came to our site to survey and carry out initial works !!! BRAVO Pasukan Bomba & Penyelamat Seremban !

14 July 2013
The fire department (BOMBA) came to Tmn Bkt Blossom today morning, 9am to check on the hydrants, and as same time to encourage residents who has the hydrant in front of their home, to become Hydrant Partner = Teman Pili. They couldn't finish their job today as they received an emergency call for fighting fire in Hardware shop beside the Masjid in rahang road. They will visit on Wednesday morning 9am again .. those who missed the event today, can go check them out this Wednesday !

Budget 2013 Money To Boost Taman Bukit Blossom Security

In the budget 2013, our beloved YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that about 4,025 Residents Association that is registered with the Registrar of Society (ROS) will be granted RM 10,000 to encourage and beef up security in the RA's respective residential area. The grant, allocated under Budget 2013’s fifth area of focus on people’s welfare, is also part of the National Key Result Areas to reduce crime in residential areas and to realise "Bandar Selamat".

I would like to take this opportunity and thank the Government for recognising that RAs play an important role in nation building, as well as advancing society’s level of thinking and standard of living.Crime prevention and national security is a shared responsibility and the TBBRA is actively involved in ensuring that the residents in Taman Bukit Blossom is not left out in this wonderful programme.

After just less than a month of application via online, on 28th June 2013, TBBRA received RM 10,000 grant as promised ! This fund will be used to block access in critical areas, thus further reducing security breach. I personally hope that the government will continue to allocate this budget yearly, as we can do alot of things to combat crime.

Residents should get to know neighbours in our Taman Bukit Blossom. The better we know our neighbours, the lesser we will have security problems. TBBRA on the other hand, will also work closely with the Police Authorities in combating crime together.

Meet with YDP MPS, Negeri Sembilan

On the 19th June 2013, 11.45am in a meeting with the YDP of MPS the following matters were discussed (please see attachment): >

1. Guarded Neighbourhood - The YDP reassured that the residents interest is his top priorities, but he needed time to first manage a solution (providing parking space ) for the restaurant operator, and only after that he can give a green light for our Guarded Neighbourhood Application. He is trying to work out the best solution for every party concern.

2. Playground - The YDP is positive this playground project can take place as soon as the Allocation funding is received.

3. Clearing of the Playground land - The YDP says this will be carried out immediately without delay whilst waiting for the allocation of the playground to be built.

4. Lane Name - As all the taman surrounding ours is a BIRD's name, ours will also be given a Bird's name. The name will be updated to us soon.

Item 5., 6.,7.,8.  - all this is an on-going process, and he encouraged us to continue to co-operate with them to highlight the issues so that it can be rectified promptly.

Street Lane name

Its been years since taman bukit blossom established, but sadly till today there is no Nama Jalan for this Taman.. As all the taman surrounding ours is a BIRD's name, the YDP said ours will also be given a Bird's name. The name will be updated to us soon. GOOD News! I have also spoken with the Jabatan Perancang, MPS, and bring this matter to their attention and in short term we will have a proper JALAN name!

The Story of the Forgotten Drain Waste

In recent month, after the formation of Taman Bukit Blossom Resident Association (TBBRA) the Southern Waste Management (SWM) has been kept on their toes on their services rendered.

Drain cleaning is one of the important scheduled task to be carried out by SWM in our Taman. Improper disposal of the waste from these drains will be an eye sore as well as hazardous to health and environment.

Thanks to resident's highlighting the issue of the "waste from the drain not taken away" couple of days back along with pictures, we were able to get SWM to clean up these waste within 24hrs.

It was also highlighted that these SWM contractors often practise this, whereby they just dump all the waste collected from the drain, on the road side and tend to "forget" to collect it. This "forgotten" waste will then get pushed back into the drain when the rain comes, or fly all over the taman when its already dried.

In view of this, we urge the TBBRA members as well as the residents to continue to highlight to us, should there be anymore issues with SWM (along with pictures if possible) so that we can remind them of their "forgotten" duties.

Remember folks, it is OUR responsibility to ensure we live in a clean and healthy environment !

Whole Green Living

Whole Green Living

We all know we should be making more of an effort to go green, but making more eco-conscious choices can feel intimidating at first. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, know that there are many small things you can start doing today to green every part of your life. We’ve put together a guide to help you lead a more environmentally focused life, starting now.

Around the house

Light candles to save energy and go green
There are many simple changes you can make at home to be more environmentally conscious. Once you start thinking greener, you'll realize how easy it can be to make more eco-friendly choices.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave the room.
  • Switch to candlelight when watching TV or a movie.
  • Replace traditional light bulbs with energy-saving ones.
  • Lower your thermostat a few degrees in colder months and cozy up under a decorative throw.
  • Turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth and take shorter showers so you avoid wasting too much water.
  • Wash your laundry in cold water so you're using less energy.

In the garden

  • Put a rain barrel by your drain pipe and water your garden or lawn with rain water.
  • Consider getting rid of your lawn which requires a lot of water to stay green, and replacing it -- or even just some of it -- with drought-resistant groundcover or moss.
  • Plant flowers and shrubs that are indigenous to your area to promote native plants, which are best suited to your climate and won't need excess water to survive.
  • Plant a sustainable garden with perennials -- plants that come back every year -- and herbs and vegetables you can enjoy.
  • Avoid using chemical pesticides on your plants.

In the kitchen

  • Organic cloth napkins are eco-friendly alternatives Join a community-supported agriculture (CSA) group to support local farmers and shift to eating more local, sustainable produce.
  • Unplug kitchen appliances (blender, food processor) when you're not using them so they're not wasting power.
  • Switch to eco-friendly cleaning products, or simply use what's in the cupboard. Vinegar diluted with water can be used to wash windows and floors.
  • Instead of using paper napkins or paper towel for quick wipe-ups, switch to washable cloths and rags.
  • Recycle and compost as much as you can to minimize household waste.

On the go

  • Walk, bike or take public transit whenever you can.
  • Car-pool or catch a ride with people at work so you lower your gas consumption.
  • Instead of packing your (or your kids') lunches in plastic or paper bags, switch to reusable containers.
  • Stash reusable bags in your trunk so you never have to use the plastic ones they give you at the store.
  • Instead of driving around in circles trying to find the closest parking spot, just pick the first spot you see and walk the rest of the way.
  • Turn off the engine while you wait to pick up the kids -- don't idle.

Shopping

  • Use totes are an eco-friendly option for shopping Ditch one-use shopping bags in favor of cloth or reusable ones.
  • Trade the plastic produce bags (which always end up with holes) at the grocery store for mesh or smaller reusable bags.
  • Whether you're shopping for food, furniture or clothes, consider shopping locally and choosing items that didn't need to be shipped from overseas.
  • Opt for natural skin care, hair care and beauty products whenever you can. The fewer ingredients, the better, when it comes to what you're putting on your body.
  • Pick up what you can from second-hand or vintage shops – basics like dish towels, kids' clothes and other items that don't need to be new.

Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan (SAINS) Manhole Project

Taman Bukit Blossom has long been left unattended by local authorities with regards to basic upkeep. The SAINS (water) manhole was left exposed without proper covers, that ended up with garbage & water stagnation which also serves as breeding ground for mosquitoes !

With TBBRA's objective to make Taman Bukit Blossom a safer & cleaner area, we addressed this issue to SAINS.

We are positive with the strong and united front our Taman Bukit Blossom Residents Association has this will be resolved in a short span of time !

UPDATE: 28th April 2013

As we were having our 2nd AGM on the 27th April 2013, the contractors have addressed most of the manhole's. I was informed that the remaining effected ones will be rectified next week ! Another issue rectified !

We are in 3rd Month of Security Programme

Dear Residents,

Congratulations !! We are moving toward the 3rd Month of having Guarded Neighbourhood security programme in Taman Bukit Blossom.

To further improve the security in our Taman, one of the Features in April is exploring the Implementation of Guard Tour Patrol System. The detail of implementation will be updated once it is officially enforced.

HOW GUARD TOUR SYSTEM WORKS:

The system uses a reader that the Guard carries along and uses every time he walks by a checkpoint. Upon each contact made, a date and time stamped along with the checkpoint information is recorded into the device. If event reporting is desired (for example, broken window, lights left on, etc) then they can be easily reported with the use of an event table (included with the system) by just touching the appropriate event within the table, after a checkpoint it relates to. The information stored in the reader (holds 10,000 transactions) can be easily downloaded to the computer with the use of the communication cable included with the system. The information then becomes available for printing or screen viewing through multiple types of available reports.

Please visit TBBRA facebook TBBRA Facebook for up to date posting, and all the residents are encouraged to join as TBBRA facebook member.

Tips: Prevent & Fight Crime

These are some very important matters to take note, in order for us to defend, deter and prevent crime.
